1-3-01 ~> happy new year
Dear Journal,
I know that I’ve fallen out of the habit of writing in this book, but the new year is the perfect time to start back. Today was the first day back [to school] from x-mas break. It was so long and boring, I fell asleep in 5th and 6th period. Break wasn’t anything special either, even though it’s a million times better than school. I spent the whole thing with Amanda, going to the mall mostly. We also went to Ramp 48 and Cocowalk. I got a henna tattoo at Cocowalk, it goes from my wrist up to the nail of my index finger. Besides break and everything nothing has really changed. Ben might have mono. That’s all. g2g. DUST.

Dear Journal,
This weekend should be really good. On Friday night Mandy and I are going to the New Found Glory concert in Coral Springs. It is a cheap show ($10) to raise money and awareness for Downs Syndrome. It’s from 7 until around 11. The only problem I can see is Mandy and me running into her now ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend Hillary (she is ‘Hill-arious”). He lives in Coral Springs so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him there.
School’s pretty bad. On Friday midterms begin. I hate them so much, like the rest of school. I can’t even really look forward to the summer anymore. I want to go to Camp White Mountain with Ben but my mom already made a non-refundable deposit, so I guess I’m stuck at Pinewood, which I think is really gonna suck! I can go to White Mountain in the summer of 2002, but that is so far away that I can’t even think that far ahead.
Nothing else new is really going on. On February 3rd I’m going with Mandy, Diego and maybe Ben to a battle of the bands called Adrenaline Fest. This kid that I’ve known for a long time, Kevin, is in one of the bands so if he remembers me even it’ll be cool. It’s late though, I have to get into “midterm mode”. Goodnight,
Dana

Dear Journal,
Last night was the New Found Glory concert and it was so much fun. My dad dropped Mandy and me off at like 7:10, but it took us a while to get in because there was a really long line. Ben wasn’t allowed to go because his mom’s rule is no adult, no concert. The place was this big park and there was a little stage at the front. The first band was Junction 18, then this band that was really bad and played 3 acoustic songs1. The next band was Where Fear and Weapons Meet. Finally New Found Glory came on and they were so amazing. Mandy and me got kinda beat up in the crowd, but managed.
After the concert Mandy and me went up to the stage to meet NFG. We got guitar picks from Chad, the guitarist. He and Jordan signed them. Chad and Mandy traded bracelets and Jordan gave us a hug. We also met the guys in the band Junction 18. They were really nice and signed the back of their sticker for us.
The whole night was so cool and the concert was the best. We found out that Adrenaline Fest has been changed from February 3rd to 2nd. That’s so good because on the third is an Against All Authority concert that I’m going to with Ben. I’m so excited for both concerts.
I g2g,
Dana

Dear Journal,
Last night was so much fun, basically Federico and Harry came over in the afternoon and we all did basically nothing. At night my parents had a party so Mandy and me babysat Alexis. We wanted Federico and Harry to come over but Alexis had to keep it secret. We watched movies and ate pizza all night long. The funniest thing that happened was when my parents came home in the middle of the party to pick up something. Fede and Harry hid in the closet, if my mom found them then we’d be totally dead. She didn’t though. After they left, Fede and Harry came out only in their boxers, it was hilarious. They left at about 11 and Mandy and I still can’t believe that we pulled it off.
Goodnight,
Dana
In retrospect, this must have been an early Dashboard Confessional performance.
